Hypoglycemia, Parasites, etc.
Hypoglycemia is a sugar drop.
This is common in small breeds.
It is very important you know about it and are prepared in case it does happen.
This is not a health issue!
Hypoglycemia occurs with the glucose drops. When puppies first leave they can be nervous, finicky and may not eat as well or drink as often, for the first few days of being in their new home. It's important that you pay very close attention to your baby and make sure they eat and drink. If not this is when a sugar drop can occur. It can also happen due to the stress of being in a new home.
Nutrical is the supplement used to help with Hypoglycemia.
I will send some home in your puppy pack for you to have on hand but if in a situation you do not have it, honey and kayro syrup will work.
Just a tiny drop on your finger and rub on the gums or tongue.
Signs of Hypoglycemia are lethargy, drooling, disoriented, leaning to one side when walking and more severe signs are throwing up and diarrhea.
Hypoglycemia is preventable and or easy to treat if it occurs, however if you're not paying close attention and your puppy has an episode and too much time passes, it will crash and could result in death so please supervise your puppy at all times.
Parasites are another thing that can occur and this is not limited to just worms.
Coccidia, Giardia etc. are other parasites to be aware of.
My puppies are dewormed every 2 weeks starting at age 2 weeks and also given preventative for coccidia.
But unfortunately parasites are all over and can be picked up easily. So be sure to get a fecal done on your baby and deworm as needed.
Coccidia and other parasites lie dormant inside the body of puppies. Sometimes they can shed this when nervous, as stated before, moving to a new home can be a little stressful for such a tiny baby. It can also be detected by a fecal and easily treated but never let your puppy ingest their feces, if parasites are there and ingested it can make them very sick. Yes, puppies sometimes try to eat there poop.
Upset bellies can be a reason for eating poop. Gross I know but you need the info and hey, you're getting a new puppy and with getting a puppy comes all this "fun" stuff too.
Some good things to help with upset tummies is pumpkin, I will send a packet in your puppy pack as well. Probiotics are another really good thing to have on hand. This helps keep healthy bacteria in the gut which is very beneficial for your pups health.
Truth of it all is, this is a little life that you have committed to. Make sure to ask any questions at anytime.
My phone number and email are provided. If you get a baby from me, I'm always just a phone call away and always willing to help.
There's a lot of care that goes into having a yorkie baby.
They are needy and demanding and so full love. They need to to give them their best life and to give them proper care so they can live long healthy lives.
Training can be difficult as these babies are stubborn but the key is to start young, like immediately.
I cannot keep teaching them for you once they leave me.
I will have a set up for puppies to eat and drink, play, sleep and use the bathroom, while they are in my care.
A set up teaches them structure which they need, it helps them learn. Puppies do not naturally want to use the bathroom where they play, eat and sleep so keeping a good routine for them is vital.
I hope this information helps you settle into being able to give your baby the best of their needs.
And I am always here. Getting a Rainbow Yorkie baby means getting a furever human friend in me.
